Susan (Rundles) Johns

Susan met her first Cavalier in 1974 in London, Susan's home town.

In England, dogs are welcome in most places. In fact, there is a royal command from long ago that says "No door shall be closed to the royal spaniels."

Well, on the night that Susan met her first Cavalier, no PUB door was closed!  The little Cavalier was tucked under the arm of a friend and went carusing on a "girls night out," happily being cuddled by friend after friend and kissing them one and all.  She was ADORABLE.

Time went by, Susan returned to America and life went on.  Nine years later when Susan's daughter Sarah was one month old, the family's adored old Irish Setter passed away.  The grief was such that another dog was not to be welcomed into the home until . . .

At eleven months old, Sarah was christened in St. John's Church in Stanmore, a village in the green belt that surrounds London.  Susan's parents were married there, Susan was christened there, and now it was Sarah's turn in that old stone church ... but wait!

Outside the church was a little girl in school uniform with two petite Cavaliers.  Susan went up to them and said, "I remember you Cavaliers."  "Oh yes!" said the little girl, "they're Cavaliers, and they're e-v-e-r so gentle!"

And so it began!

Two puppies came back with the family to Bonita and a while later, Bentley Priory Cavaliers became a reality.
